With the increase in popularity of K-pop stars, the Korean makeup trend such as thick & straight brows, cat-eye and dewy skin have become very popular.

Here are some tips to achieve flawless dewy skin!

Step 1: Exfoliate

Removing dead skin cells is a very important step to good skin. It brightens your skin, reduces clogged pores and allows other skin care products to penetrate better. Makeup stay-put longer on clean, good skin as well.

My current favourite is Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel from Philosophy.

This 2 step peel resurfaces and rejuvenates sun-damaged, hyper-pigmented and aging skin. It not only exfoliates but also delivers Vitamin C and peptides to the skin

Step 1: Apply the Vitamin C/peptide crystals to clean, dry skin and GENTLY massage for 1 minute.

Step 2: Pour 1 teaspoon amount of lactic/salicylic acid activating gel on the palm of your hand and apply it on top of the crystals avoiding eye area. A warm sensation will occur and white foam will appear. Leave foam on for 2-3 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

For me, warm sensation occurs from step 1, but I guess its okay as I did not get any breakout or redness on the skin. My skin feels super smooth and looks much brighter after I completed the 2 steps! Scars from my previous breakout have lightened too. Love it!! Do not overuse it though as it may cause your skin to be too sensitive. Use it around once a week.

Find it here on Amazon or here on Q0010 (:

Another good product I would recommend is For Beloved One’s Mandelic Acid Serum.

For Beloved One 20 percent mandelic acid renewal serum DECOR

Recommend use for normal to oily skin is 2-3 times a week, while dry skin should use only 1-2 times a week. If you have really sensitive skin, mix this serum with your moisturizer before applying to your skin.

Remember to always hydrate your skin well especially after peeling!

To keep dull skin away, you may also want to use For Beloved One’s Mandelic Acid Renewal Toner and also the famous ‘miracle water’ (SKII’s Facial Treatment Essence) for daily maintenance.

Step 2: Prime your skin with illuminating Primer

Primer smooths out, protect the skin and also makes makeup more long-lasting. Try Misha’s BB Boomer! It is an illuminating base for BB cream. Keeps your makeup more long-lasting and most importantly, brightens up your complexion!

*edit: They have a new version Missha Strobeam Starter (Pink Light)! Check it out here (:

I tried using it as a base for my liquid foundation. Works well too! Really brightens up my complexion.

Step 3: Illuminating BB Cream/Foundation and Powder

For a more dewy look, you can try mixing illuminating primer/serum into your liquid foundation and set with loose translucent/shimmering loose powder. (Sometimes I would mix Laura Mercier’s Radiance Foundation Primer into my foundation to brighten it up as it doesn’t work that well for me as a base for long-wearing makeup)

Step 4: Highlighting

Lastly, apply highlighter (powder, liquid or cream) on the high-points of your face: t-zone, cheekbone. For example, Benefit’s High Beam, Stila’s convertible colour in kitten.

♥ liquid/cream highlighters as they are more long-lasting and can have a more intense shine. If blending is not your forte, stick to powders as they are much easier to apply (:
